Looping and destruction in the Middle East in the context of war and political instability

Desde la Primavera Árabe de 2011, el patrimonio cultural de Oriente Medio se ha enfrentado a una grave amenaza, ya que Daesh (ISIS) y otras organizaciones extremistas transformaron yacimientos arqueológicos, en herramienta de financiación. En 2016, alrededor de 100.000 objetos culturales de gran importancia, incluyendo 4.500 yacimientos arqueológicos, nueve de los cuales están incluidos en la Lista del Patrimonio Mundial de la UNESCO, estuvieron bajo el control del Estado Islámico en Siria e Iraq. Sin embargo, en estas dinámicas no solo están incluidos estos grupos extremistas. Parte de la población de estos países no duda en realizar este tipo de actividades para salir adelante.
