Gestión Ambiental para disposición de los residuos sólidos en el Instituto Profesional y Técnico de Bocas del Toro

Abstract

The problem of solid waste at the national level has generated social conflicts, due to the lack of a sanitary landfill. In Changuinola, province of Bocas del Toro has a large problem of disposal and treatment of solid waste with the installation of various control systems for waste management paying attention to prevention strategies. The objective was to design an institutional plan of environmental management for the promotion of an adequate environmental awareness, the generation of spaces for reflection and participation in the Bocas del Toro High School. The technique recommended for the diagnosis and characterization of solid waste. Solid waste was characterized with a generation of 30 kg/day and 150 kg/week. The perception of students and teachers was seventy three percent calling for an immediate treatment measure, twenty percent in the medium term and seven percent in the long term. It is concluded that if the problem of solid waste is not addressed, health risks are exposed to the entire educational community. Work is in the creation of an information, awareness and dissemination plan for the collection, classification and final disposal of solid waste, in the educational institution, Professional and Technical Institute of Bocas del Toro that serves as reference for the country.
