Submission Preparation Checklist

As part of the submission process, authors are required to check off their submission's compliance with all of the following items, and submissions may be returned to authors that do not adhere to these guidelines.
  • The submission has not been previously published, nor is it before another journal for consideration (or an explanation has been provided in Comments to the Editor).
  • The submission file is in OpenOffice, Microsoft Word, or RTF document file format.
  • Where available, URLs for the references have been provided.
  • The text is single-spaced; uses a 12-point font; employs italics, rather than underlining (except with URL addresses); and all illustrations, figures, and tables are placed within the text at the appropriate points, rather than at the end.
  • The text adheres to the stylistic and bibliographic requirements outlined in the Author Guidelines.

Types of papers

  1. Case image: presenting a key clinical message. Case images should have the following format: Figure, Figure description, Declarations, and References.
  2. Case report/series: presenting a key clinical message. The rarity of the presented case(s) doesn’t matter. Case report/series should have the following format: Background, Case(s) presentation, Differential diagnosis, Discussion, Conclusions, Declarations, and References.
  3. Commentary: corresponding to articles recently published in JON (within the last 6 months). Not usually peer-reviewed. Commentary articles should have the following format: Background, Main body, Conclusions, Declarations, and References.
  4. Consensus statement: or guidelines on clinical or laboratory practice that are of international significance. Consensus statement articles should have the following format: Background, Main body, Discussion, Conclusions, Declarations, and References.
  5. Corrigendum: corresponding to articles published in JON. Not usually peer-reviewed. Corrigendum articles should have the following format: Background, Main body, Conclusions, Declarations, and References.
  6. Editorial: are usually by invitation; however, unsolicited editorials will also be considered. Not usually peer-reviewed. Editorial articles should have the following format: Background, Main body, Conclusions, Declarations, and References.
  7. Hypothesis: featuring an evidence-based theory, not merely based-on imagination. It provides a new interpretation of recent data. Hypothesis should have the following format: Abstract, Background, Main hypothesis, Discussion, Conclusions, Declarations, and References.
  8. Journal club report: featuring a discussion on cutting-edge articles to improve the basic, translational, clinical knowledge or skill. It must provide learning points. Journal club report should have the following format: Abstract, Background, Discussion, Learning points, Declarations, and References.
  9. Mini-review: featuring a concise summary of a certain topic that has seen significant development or progress in recent years, with comprehensive depth and a balanced perspective. Mini-reviews should have the following format: Abstract, Background, subsections relevant to the subject, Discussion, Conclusions, Declarations, and References.
  10. Original research: featuring new basic, translation, and clinical work. Original research articles include observational studies, interventional studies (including randomized trials), systematic reviews, and meta-analyses. Original research articles should have the following format: Abstract, Background, Methods, Results, Discussion, Conclusions, Declarations, and References.
  11. Perspective: featuring a personal viewpoint on any aspect of oncology. Perspective articles should have the following format: Background, Main body, Conclusions, Declarations, and References.
  12. Research letter: similar to original articles, but in shorter presentation. Featuring clear and concise conclusions supported by solid data at small-scale basic research or new, early, or preliminary research findings. Research letters should have the following format: Abstract, Background, Methods, Results, Discussion, Conclusions, Declarations, and References.
  13. Study protocol: featuring detailed hypothesis, rationale, and methodology of proposed or ongoing prospective clinical research. Study protocol articles should have the following format: Background, Hypothesis/Rationale, Methodology, Conclusions, Declarations, and References.
  14. Summary: pertains to indexed articles and books. Not usually peer-reviewed. Article/Book summaries should have the following format: Background, Main body, Conclusions, Declarations, and References.

Manuscript preparation and submission

  • The following files are necessary to submit:
    • Cover letter
    • Title page
    • Main manuscript
    • Figures (if any)
  • Title page and manuscript should be prepared in Microsoft Word (. doc/. docx) format.
  • Title page includes the main title, running title, authors’ name and affiliations, corresponding author’s names, affiliation, and contact information.
  • Manuscripts must follow the standard format per article type, as follows:
    • Research letter: Abstract, Keywords, Background, Methods, Results, Discussion, Conclusions, Declarations, and References
    • Case report/series: Abstract, Keywords, Background, Case presentation, Differential diagnosis, Discussion, Conclusions, Declarations, and References
    • Case image:

  • The preferred format for manuscripts:
    • Font: Times New Roman, 12-point type,
    • Text: 1.5-spaced, low-justified,
    • Layout: 1-inch margins on all sides, page numbers at the bottom center, continuous line numbering, and no header/footer.
  • Figures should be submitted as separate files and should not be embedded in the main document. Figure captions should be listed in order at the end of the main document. Images should be submitted in high resolution (at least 300 dpi). The accepted formats for figures are JPEG, PNG, and TIFF.
  • Tables should be prepared using Word MS and submitted at the end of the manuscript following the order appearing in the main text.
  • Citations and references must follow the standard Vancouver style.
  • Manuscripts are submitted online via ScholarOne ManuscriptsTM.

 

Terms of submission

The corresponding author is responsible for ensuring that:

  • the submitted manuscript is original.
  • the submitted manuscript follows the journal guideline.
  • the submitted manuscript’s content and format is confirmed by all co-authors.
  • if applicable, the manuscript contains the IRB approval and ethical code.
  • the submitted manuscript contains a section under the heading of “Declaration”, providing information that comprises a conflict of interest statement, funding, availability of data/material, and authors’ contribution.
